At only 1.69m, 25-year-old Fabi is one of the most impressive liberos going round and her displays in the World Grand Prix show that her defence is one of the best on the international scene.

Her bravery was one of the key factors which saw the Brazilian team, which has won the World Grand Prix
four times including last year’s triumph, complete the first leg of the World Grand Prix unbeaten, where Brazil
beat Japan, Korea and Poland in Tokyo.

Question: How do you analyze the Brazilian team after the first week?
Fabi: The team is at a learning stage. In the World Grand Prix, we played
against Korea and Poland for the first time this season and we played very well.
I think that we are being very aggressive on the court, which is what every team needs to be a winner, but we have to maintain our concentration and work hard.

Question: How can you describe the amazing victory in the game against Japan
(where Brazil lost the first two sets before winning the next three)?
Fabi: It was a victory of concentration and teamwork. We did not play well in the first two sets as we just watched the Japanese players. But in the third set, our team woke up. Our coach José Roberto made some changes and the team found its rhythm. We stopped the Japanese attacks, but the most important thing is that we played with style.”

Question: What is the most important virtue of the Brazilian team?
Fabi: We have been playing together for about two years so the team is very close.
The players have a good mentality and each one is always trying to help the
other. There are no individual stars. In each match, there is one player that shines
more but the responsibilities are divided. However, we have a lot to improve before the
Olympic Games in Beijing.

Question: You did not play in Athens 2004. How was this experience and the return as
an important name to the Brazilian team?
Fabi: I am very happy to be in the main team again. I did not go to Athens because it was not my time. I worked hard to get another chance. It appeared, but there is a lot more work to do. I know there are many good liberos in Brazil and the competition for a place will be very hard.
